Visit to Killofin

It was emotional touching down on Irish soil after over 10 years, particularly knowing that Mum was the last of her line who actually lived here. After meeting my Bro and his gang at the airport this morning, Oya and I headed to Mum's village of Labasheeda. It felt good to see Casey's Pub and the Shannon Estuary again, the National School which Mum attended through her formative years and the parish church. It's pretty tiny. You'd miss it if you blinked. Seemed as though time has left it all untouched since I'd last seen it over 10 years ago.

As we are expecting rain for tomorrow's memorial service, I wanted to scope out Mum's family headstone at Killofin Cemetery and spend a little time there in the sunshine. I had Mum's name and dates engraved on the headstone a few months ago. There it was in a lovely secluded spot surrounded by walls of holly and a gorgeous stone archway looking out on rolling green hills spilling into the Shannon river. As resting places go, this one ranks right up there.
